Sydney Photoshoot
Ronny & Evie asked Dragon Photography to take on a day and evening photoshoot in Sydney, Australia as a prelude to their wedding later this year. A sightseeing trip around Sydney is always amazing but we just wish we had had better weather. Three very rainy photoshoots in a row? Not a hat-trick we had hoped for.
Our brief was to photograph Ronny & Evie on a casual tour around Sydney and many of its favourite tourist spots. With a suitcase full of clothes and Evie’s friend a make up artist to boot we hit the trail!
Our photoshoot kicked off at St Mary’s Cathedral in central Sydney in what would best be described as monsoonal conditions. We snapped off a few quick shots out front then some more on the dark steps leading to Hyde Park. (For new players.. you need to apply for a permit to do this in a wedding gown… so we learned!)
When the rain finally stopped 2 hours later and with lunch on board we took some quick shots through the shopping arcade at Centrepoint before working our way through Hyde Park and down to Brett Whiteley’s Matches sculpture and the Art Gallery of NSW. The Hyde Park fountain would have been fabulous on a glorious sunny day but you can’t have it all. On-camera flash proved to be invaluable on this unpredictable day. Cloudy days provide soft lighting though which helps with outdoor portraits so we got some lovely candids by the sandstone columns at the entrance to the Art Gallery.
What visit to Sydney would be complete without a photo or two at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair with one of the best backdrops on the planet of the Harbour Bridge & Opera House combo. These two icons would be revisited in the evening with night shots taken from the waterfront at the Rocks.
We sneaked in some shots down at Dawes Point in between the endless procession of newly weds and bubbling bridesmaids to give us some iconic harbour landscapes as a backdrop.
All-in-all we had a very successful day with about 400 photographs summing up the day. Ronny & Evie will have a slide show of their Sydney shoot playing at their wedding reception in their native Indonesia in March later this year before returning home to Australia. Most importantly we all had great fun in one of the best cities in the world.
